Feedback of Safety Concerns from Comments Box

  • help for families with snowstorm (e.g. who to contact during office closures re: Frozen pipes)
  • earthquakes 
  • forest fires
  • patrols at night (what is the purpose, feeling of being spied on by members)
  • providing lanterns for power outages (there was not enough lanterns for everyone in first round)
  • who checks on elders and singles during emergencies? - George Harry is going to emergency operations training which is a first step

Meghan

  • where is Malahat Nation's emergency water supply? Can this be funded by an |Environment program or Daniels funding to get a supply in the emergency Sea Can?
  • Need a way for members to get assistance for safety issues after hours
  • concern about road access during floods - there have been washouts before/mudslides
  • Providing Generators for personal households might be useful
  • Daniel's wife at event ? Was that appropriate - she asked for first aid kit but funding is for community
  • Pieter had 2 people with him who were from Washington - we were never informed. How to handle this? - follow up with Pieter about this

Samantha

  • Sitting together as a team (Environment team/Daniel etc.)
  • put Name tags on 
  • Posters of anything else we are doing in the community
  • better way of handing out invites to event/ notices for event (Facebook is not good for everyone - some people did not know about event)
  • Sam had to share event on her personal Facebook due to some members being blocked on Malahat event

Jess

  • introductions about background is important at events (e.g. ancestry)
  • Hul'qumi'num language - members are typically impressed but there needs to be caution because not everyone has access to language learning, be cautious about sharing opportunities to learn the language
  • bring community member staff for buddy communications 
  • Clam Garden tour via boat
  • plan Elders activities after Elder lunch
  • Talk to Rose Harry - about best ideas
  • Rose is good at leading interactive workshops (e.g. Food Preserving - drying clams, seaweed collection)
  • some Youth and some elders
  • 3 door prizes instead of one big one
  • kid focused movies
  • coloring station was a good idea
  • have Cassie / Kathy do the chatting with members
  • offering coffee time in the Environment Office to chat with members
  • talk to Elders about the idea of starting a Working Group first
  • evenings are good for Working Group
